Up for auction here is my beloved TAL-150P Newtonian Telescope.
The pictures of the scope were taken on 9/01/2012, not the date shown...sorry for the confusion.
Normally, I would hold this forever, and will it to my children, but the Missus is staunch about me getting another scope for astrophotography until I sell this one. So, against my will...here I go....
This is a 6" (150mm) Newtonian Reflector. I have no idea how old it is, I bought it not too long ago used. In a nutshell, it's big, white, sturdy, and an all around great observing scope. It makes light work of planets, double and variable stars. Deep sky objects are visible as well, as M42 (Orion Nebula) is seen with great amounts of detail for just a 6" scope.
There are cosmetic issues, as I have not always been the sole owner, it has accumulated a bit of rust on some screws, the paint on the legs of the pier is oxidizing, and the paint is chipping off the steel in some places. I have also painted the details of the scope on the side of the tube, along with it's name "The Great White Hope" and my own name. This can be removed, as it was done with model enamel, and I will gladly do this upon request. I've posted a few pictures showing any of this.
There are no problems with the functionality of the scope whatsoever. Great, clear views all the time. I have just personally given it a work up: Cleaned the optics, dismantled and lubricated all moving parts, and collimated the scope.
I'll include a 25 and 15mm eyepiece, the scope comes with a 9x finderscope already mounted.
The scope is great for beginners, and intermediate astronomers. I have gotten many hours of use from this scope, and it needs a good home! People who use TALs swear by them, and I understand why. I just happen to have an itchy shutter finger, and would love to translate my viewing to photos.
Due to the size and sheer weight of this item, it's cash on collection only.
Good luck! And Thanks for looking.
