Nissan specialist Conceptua Tuning only sells parts that come up to our extremely high quality standards. Having looked at many of the other gaskets offered for S13 200SX's it is apparent that many are in fact for less powerful CA engines, and as such the water coolant holes are in the wrong places for turbocharged cars. On correct shaped gaskets there are only coolant holes at the rear of the head, around cylinder number 4, with small 'steam' holes on the other cylinder locations.

This has a massive impact on the cylinder head gasket's performance- the positioning of the coolant holes on the CA18DET engine are specifically placed so water is forced by the water pump back to the rear of the block, at which point it is allowed to rise into the cylinder head. From this point at number 4 cylinder the water then runs forward through the head itself. The extremely high thermal loads produced by the turbocharged engine are contained by keeping both coolant flow direction correct, and coolant pressure high.

The actual water pressure in the head itself rises far above that indicated on the radiator cap- in fact the designed in flow restriction of the thermostat, coupled with the controlled water flow path dictated by the correct head gasket, mean the pressure can rise to as much as 30- 40psi inside the head- helping control localised boiling under sever conditions.

The head gasket for CA18DE engines (which is often incorrectly labelled as being for 200SXs) does not have to cope with such demanding conditions, and as a result is less highly specified- see the comparison picture to see how the coolant is allowed to mingle freely between head and block all the way along the engine, possibly putting your engine at risk.
