Here we have a Sansui AU999 circa 1970-72. The driver boards have been extensively over hauled pic6 with all transistors replaced with more modern substitutes .MJE340, MJE350, ZTX290. and both aluminium caps replaced with good quality replacements. The preamp has had the kevzep preamp mod which has hugely improved the performance of this amp. You can read about this if you search Audiokarma website as well as others. The amp has also had the bass equalisation mod which has improved the bass response. These amps tend to spend their lives with the bass selector kicked right over but this mod gives adequate bass at the 12 oclock setting and you can reduce or increase to your taste. The sub sonic filters have also been taken out., these were there because of the poor record decks we had back in the day which tended give out a little rumble but with the improvement of modern decks these became unnecessary, and they did have a detrimental effect on the signal.. The crowbar speaker protection has also been removed as when these came into play they had a tendency to take out the output transistors. The speaker protection is now purely down to the fuses at the rear but so long as correct values are used there is no threat to the speakers. This amp has all original Hitachi output transistors as can be seen in pics 3 & 4. The bias and DC offset have been set to factory spec. Schematics and user manuals can be located on the net free of charge. or i can email them to you. The pics shown are of the amp your buying. I also have the TU999 tuner in a separate listing the 1 on top in pic 1. I will include all the removed parts in the sale, but trust me once you listen to this amp you wouldnt want to change a thing.
Check this out. More work can be done to these amps to ensure longevity I suggest a recap to a board each time you service, or if your competent with a soldering iron & solder pump DiY.
The AU-999 is the most advanced professional control amplifier ever manufactured by Sansui.
Designed specifically for the ardent audiophile, it features the refined dull black panels common to all AU series professional control amplifiers from Sansui.
The pre-amplifier section is constructed of carefully selected low-noise PNP silicon transistors, while the power amplifier section features direct-coupled circuits specially developed with the improvement of tonal quality in mind.
Together, they permit the AU-999 to deliver a full 180 watts (4 ohms) in music power output with unprecedented tone quality.
The AU-999 is lavishly endowed with accessory circuits.
These include a tone selector circuit, an improved form of the triple tone control circuit that offers a choice in selecting the critical frequencies of tone control; a speaker selector which permits connecting three sets of speaker systems; a balance check switch which simplifies the job of adjusting for optimum balance of the right and left channel sound volumes; facilities to connect two phonographs and two tape decks, and a tape reprint circuit.
Special provisions have also been made to permit the amplifier to be built up into an electronic crossover stereo system and permit comparing such a system with a standard stereo set-up.
