SWEET MOTSCHMANN / TAUFLING ANTIQUE CHILD DOLL - 10 INCHES TALL.
called "Naughty Girl"
Offered for sale is an early and rare Motschmann child doll with a taufling type body.
Her solid dome head is made out of papier mache with a wax over finish and her body of wood and cloth. She is 10 inches (25cms) tall.
She has a mohair wig of unruly golden curls which is glued firmly to her head. She does not have and painted curls over her ears as do some Motschmann dolls.
She has blue glass sleep eyes which work smoothly, finely painted eyebrows and a smiling open mouth with the tiniest teeth. She has pink tinted cheeks. Condition of the wax is fair - good all over coverage with some dings and scrapes - please see pictures.
Wooden and cloth body is in need of TLC although she poses perfectly well when dressed. Her arms are only just attached by the cloth floating joints. I think the arms have been repainted as her wrists are now fixed. Squeaker in tummy no longer works. Her legs have cloth joints at the top and wooden joints at the knee. her pantaloons and socks are sewn / glued in place so it is difficult to see properly.
She wears a very sweet antique cream flannel dress with hand embroidery, original woollen petticoat, cotton pantaloons and decorated socks with attached patent look shoes.
I have always called her "Naughty Girl" because she has the look of a cheeky little imp.
This is a doll for the connoisseur of early dolls. Please look at the photos and only bid if you are prepared to love her despite her faults. She is not perfect but she is certainly unique!
