Excellent, bought this as my best friend served on Ark Royal when we left school and at the time this was series was being filmed. Can't believe this was 42 years ago ! Nostalgia at it's best.

Instant nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the 1970’s when this was televised. Also a great programme for anyone interested in the history of the navy. A testament to British Naval Dockyard efficiency when the Captain selects Ahead and the Ship goes astern!

I can remember watching this Series when it was first shown back in 1976 I liked it because it was probaly the first time a documentry had been filmed on board a warship that showed life as it was warts and all. It was especially poignant because at the time H.M.S. Ark Royal was the last of the big fleet carriers, It looked at every aspect of Navy life from the ordinary seaman right up to the commanding officer how they felt about being separated from their fammlies, doing their jobs on board ship and runs ashore in various ports. The only thing that I did not like even though it was central to the story was in Sailor Eight years on when the Fleet Master at Arms who was now retired went to vist what was left of Ark Royal in the scrapyard and he got very emotional and he said "she should have been perserved or had the plug pulled on her" I thought it was a sad end to a great ship with a great name. I was on You Tube and I happen to come across snippets of film from Sailor, watched them then went on eBay to see if it was for sale I found that it was, bought it and it was excellent watching it all over again it was an excellent buy.Read full review
