Afterglow is firmly within the McLachlan signature sound — a softly tuneful, mildly atmospheric blend of classic singer/songwriterism and a touch of vaguely dreamy alternative pop, all shined and immaculately produced by Pierre Marchand. Prior to its release, the album was touted as the first collection of songs she wrote entirely on piano, not guitar, but ultimately this doesn't make much of a difference to the overall feel and effect of the album, which perfectly dovetails with Surfacing. But there's little arguing that Afterglow is a solid effort. 'Afterglow' was infact my first Sarah album, so it has won a new fan! Great album and recommended listening...
I have 6 albums of Sarah's: Touch, Solace, Afterglow, Surfacing, Fumbling towards ecstacy, and Laws of Illusion. Afterglow starts off being an interesting album, but after a few relaxing listens, you'll find each track shines with its own merit. I've played tracks 1 and 2 to death, but then found the rest of the album has great qualities too. Cannot recommend this highly enough. If you only buy 1 Sarah Mclachlan album, make sure it's this one. It's stood the test of time (now 6 years old) and I'm sure you'll still be playing it in another 6 years.
This girl could sing a shopping list and make it sound brilliant. Vocally and lyrically, Sarah McLachlan is up there with the very best of her genre and you will not be disappointed by 'Afterglow'. Dilly
Sarah McLachlan has once again excelled herself with this album. Her music gives you time to relax and listen to her words and encourage you to slow down a bit. Her songs come from the heart and truly deserve to be on many more soundtracks to movies as previously City of Angels and recently The Brave One. I would recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys the voice of a woman who can touch your heart strings especially when life gets to busy.
