Victoria Salvano prefers painting with watercolor on large sheets of Arches fine art paper. A typical size for an original piece is 30” x 40”. She relishes filling every inch with details, always painting right to the edge of the paper. Paintings can take anywhere from a month to a year to complete depending on the particular work and its complexities. Most recently the details in the architecture andItalian Market the variety in the waterfront communities of Baltimore are the source of inspiration for Victoria Salvano. Her newest print, Baltimore Cityscape features the familiar landmark of the Bromo Seltzer Tower, mod eled after the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. Baltimore’s most notorious block is featured in The Block, a lavish study of a stretch of Baltimore Street, once home to a thriving performing arts district at the turn of the 20th century.
In Baltimore Backstreets and Italian Market, the tall brick spire of St. Leo’s church figures, a cornerstone of the Little Italy neighborhood. Italian Market features a renowned deli down the street from St. Leo’s which showcases the Italian foods close to her heart: proscuitto di Parma, Reggiano parmesan, mozzarella, mortadella and sopressata. A tugboat docked along Thames Street in Fells Point is the focal point of a nationally famous street in Fells Point Remembered. Locust Point reveals a little Irish bar in the south Baltimore neighborhood of Locust Point. All of Victoria Salvano’s prints are giclèes of original watercolor paintings. The giclèe, translated from the French as “a spraying of ink”, is produced by an ink jet printing process in conjunction with fine art print making techniques. Unlike offset printing, this process produces brilliant, near photographic images with superior archival qualities. The giclèe print offers subtle details and an extended color range and can be printed on fine art paper, all of which makes these prints as true to the original artwork as possible.
