I needed an astronaut costume for a large marionette puppet. Even the smallest size was too big for this this purpose but I was able to do some cutting and sewing to reduce the size. So, in the end, it was perfect for my needs. The material is quite thin but soft and flexible and very shiny on the outside. It was easy to sew with a very fine needle. The PVC type coating on the very thin (nylon?) material meant that I could hold the pieces together in position easily with double sided tape while sewing the pieces together. I think a child would really enjoy this costume (and would probably stay quite warm inside it! There's a white velcro strip on front of the top half of costume so it is easy to undo and step into. I had two reinforce the stitching holding the velcro strip to the tunic. I think that rough play while wearing the costume might limit the life expectancy of the material. It's a bit like survival material but softer in texture and more flexible. It doesn't make a scrunching noise when you handle it.) I like the badges (fused onto the silvery material. There's even on one the top of one arm with a space shuttle symbol. Of course, modern space suits do not look like this at all. Astronauts wear ordinary clothes or coloured jump suits in flight. They have a special, orange suit for take off and landing. For moon walks etc. they wear an enormous, white suit that is basically a small, personal space craft. There are photos online of very early astronauts wearing silver costumes like this one. A good opportunity to teach children the history of space exploration and technology! But most of them will just love pretending to be astronauts!Read full review
