Sony RM-MC11EL Remote Control with Backlight
for Mid- to High-Range Sony Minidisc Recorders
++ AN ORIGINAL SONY MANUFACTURED PART ++
++ IN WORN COSMETIC CONDITION BUT ELECTRICALLY PERFECT ++
This remote control was one of Sony's more popular models, as supplied with many of their mid-range to high-range minidisc recorders and players (and many CD players), such as the MZ-N1, MZ-R909, MZ-E900 etc. This model is basically identical to the RM-MC10L, but is in silver finish rather than black and includes a backlight for the LCD readout.
The remote was originally released in 2000 with the MZ-R900. It was also supplied with several more models over a number of years, plus is supported by models which were not originally supplied with this remote but use the same remote driver electronics and so can be used with it successfully. It supports the basic volume and transport control features as you would expect, plus has dedicated buttons for more advanced features. Please understand that this remote was introduced before Sony introduced 'Groups', so the remote control does not have Group +/- buttons. The complete list of functions is:
- Volume +/- (using a rotary control on the end of the stick)
- Play/Track +/- (giving Fast Forward and Fast Rewind when held for longer)
- Display (modifies the way track info is shown)
- Play Mode (controls track shuffling etc)
- Repeat (alters track repeat status)
- Sound (changes playback effects, depending on recorder model)
- Hold (all other controls disabled)
Compatibility: Generally machines fall into three groups: those that are totally compatible; those that are mainly compatible but some extended functions do not work, and those that do not work at all with the remote. The list of machines that are totally compatible include:
MZ-R700, MZ-G750, MZ-G755, MZ-R900, MZ-R909, MZ-N1, MZ-N10, MZ-N910,
MZ-N505, MZ-N707, MZ-N510, MZ-N520, MZ-NF610, MZ-NF520D, MZ-N710, MZ-NF810,
MZ-NH1, MZ-NH600, MZ-NH700, MZ-E500, MZ-E501, MZ-E510, MZ-E700, MZ-E900, MZ-E909,
Machines with partial support include:
MZ-R30/R35/E30/E35 (no backlight support), MZ-R55, MZ-R70, MZ-R90, MZ-R91, MZ-B10
The partly compatible machines generally support the transport buttons, but Play Mode also covers the Repeat function, the Repeat button does nothing and the Sound button either does nothing or duplicates Fast Forward. In the case of the MZ-B10, every function works fine apart from Display (no equivalent function), and rather oddly the Volume +/- controls do not work.
Condition: Cosmetically this remote control is well-used with the silver finish worn at many places, but with no marks to the display window. I won't bundle remotes in this condition with my sales machines, but they are much sought after and it seems a bit silly to throw it away just because of a few scrapes and worn edges. Although heavily worn, the sprung clip is not damaged, the cable is fine with no cuts or kinks, and electrically it is in excellent condition.
But who am I, and why am I selling this? I have been involved in electronics and servicing since the 1970s, and in my time repaired all kinds of electrical and electronic equipment. I like to renovate minidisc recorders and build guitar effects pedals. I also buy up surplus equipment, service it and sell it, which is the main part of my business activities. This particular item is a pre-owned item that has been refurbished and made ready for re-use.
This item has been fully serviced and thoroughly tested. I am so confident in the quality of this Sony remote and my own technical abilities that I am offering a full SIX MONTH warranty against breakdown. If this item fails at all in the six months after purchase, I will gladly repair or replace free of charge. Look through the other seller's listings and see how many of them are this confident in the items they sell!
