This multi-purpose breakout from Sparkfun is a must-have for anyone who's into electronics.
Based on  FTDI's popular USB to UART IC and now with internal oscillator and EEPROM, the FT232RL is an impressive IC!

The FTDI chip implements a serial UART and all signals are at TTL level (the board is 3.3V and 5V tolerant).
You just need to connect the board to a USB port in your computer and it will show up as a normal COMM port.
Once the board is recognized you can interact with it just as if you were using a regular COMM port.

This board is ideal to connect your electronics projects to your PC; "talk" to TTL devices such as Zigbee, Bluetooth modems, GPS, ...

  • RX and TX at TTL level (tolerant to both 3.3V and 5V)
  • Gnd and Vcc pins capable of supplying 3.3V and 5V
    (The board gets its power from the USB port and is capable fo supplying small amounts of current to other devices)
  • CTS & RTS; DSR & DCD; RI
  • Additionally all pins in the FT232RL chip are exposed by the board

• VCCIO is tied to 3.3V through a solder jumper. You have the option of clearing this jumper and tying the VCCIO pin to 5V or any other IO voltage you need.

 1. Shipping
Items are shipped from our secured warehouse.
Orders entered before 1pm are usually dispatched the same day. Otherwise they are dispatched the next day.

 . UK deliveries: UK orders are delivered using either RoyalMail First Class (for small size / low price parcels) or Parcelforce for all other. Typical delivery time is 1-2 working days.
 . International deliveries: Shipping costs are calculated based on the weight and destination of the package. Items are sent insured with Airsure or Parcelforce. For small value items we use Airsure; for higher value items we use Parcelforce.com (handled by GLS and EMS in most countries) which offers tracking information. Typical delivery time is 4-5 days.

 2.  Returns
In accordance with the UK Distance Selling Regulations, if you experience any problems with the items received or in the unlikely event that any kit parts are missing or damaged, we will replace the items or you may return the goods and receive a full refund. Buyer will assume costs for returned shipping.

 3.  Payment
We can accept payments by Paypal, Cheque (UK only), Credit & Debit Cards, or by Bank Wire Transfer (BACS/SWIFT/IBAN..).

 4.  VAT and other taxes
VAT (Value Added Tax) of 17.5% will be charged if customer address is in the UK or if customer address is in another member state of the European Union. If shipping address is not an EC member country or if customer provides us with a European company VAT registration number, please contact us to receive VAT exemption.
Items are shipped from our UK warehouse therefore there are no risk of customs import duties and taxes in EU.
