We have a number of cats in our Branch who, for various reasons are not suitable for re-homing. This might be because of illness, age or temperament. These cats stay with member of our branch, living with them, their families an other pets in a normal home environment.
We operate a Sponsorship Scheme where, for £12.00 per year, plus £1 P&P, people can sponsor one of these cats. By buying this item, you will receive a printed newsletter straight away from your chosen cat which includes a photo and then a further 3 newsletters during the year with more news about how they are getting on. This also makes a lovely gift for someone who is unable to have a cat of their own. If you would like us to send this to someone else as a gift, please let us know and we will do so.
Josie was one of 7 kittens picked up from an industrial estate in Basildon in August 2006. All of them were in very poor condition with hugely distended stomachs and very rough sparse fur, however on the plus side, they were all friendly. After lots of TLC and visits to the vet, all improved except for Josie and her brother George, both of whom started to cough and pant. All the others were eventually found homes but Josie and George had to stay with us.
After more visits to the vets, it was discovered that Josie and George had a lung problem. Unfortunately, George became very ill and had to be put to sleep, but Josie seemed to improve for a while then start panting again. She now has to be constantly monitored and have X-rays every few months. Her condition has been diagnosed as cilliary dyskenisia, a condition that means the small hairs (the cilliary) in the airways do not work properly as they allow infections to enter the lungs. All we can hope is that her lungs stay relatively clear, so she will now be staying with us as one of the branch’s sponsor cats. She lives with her foster Mums, Linda (our coordinator) and and her mum, Vera.Your donation will be used exclusively for our sponsor cats vet bills, to ensure that they get any veterinary treatment that they should need.
All proceeds are going to Basildon, Brentwood & District Branch of Cats Protection, which is one of over 250 voluntary branches of Cats Protection, Reg Charity no 203644, the UK's oldest and biggest cat charity. The Branch helps over 1000 local cats each year, either rehoming, neutering or helping to treat strays. We follow a strict no-kill policy,
