I'm a long standing fan of Steve Earle and this is his best release in a number of years. His previous album "the revolution starts now" had its moments but i didnt care for it much. This, however, more than makes up for it. The influence of his latest marriage to songstress Alison Moorer is very apparent and her influence is felt throughout. "Sparkle & Shine" is a touching love song to his wife and a standout track along with "Days arent Long Enough". To say this is a country album and that Earle is a country artist doesnt do either any justice. As with the rest of his output for the last few years he has adopted a rootsy sound which suits his ever developing songwriting. This would be great introduction to anyone who hasnt sampled him before. As an aside theres also a fine rendition of a Tom Waits song "way down in the hole" at the very end of the album. All in all a very satisfying release from a man who proclaimed " i aint ever satisfied" all those years ago. Mark McGibbon 91 Cardenden Rd Cardenden KY5 0PD 01592 721617Read full review
Come on Steve where are the Dukes? I found this CD to be self indulgent. I usually go back to your CD's time and again but not to this one. Only two tracks up to your usual amazing music. Waited a long time for this CD and your UK tour and expected the full rocking package but no, only solo acoustic performances will be offered. Won't be going to your concert at the Bridgewater Hall to listen this type of music. Only tracks 5 and 11 did anything for me. Gordon
