Rare Stimson minibug, this is the mark 2 version and was made by Mini Motors of Bolton who took over production from Stimson.
Has been dry stored in my garage for several years, but I have new interests in my life now so it has to go.
In overall good condition, but as it has not been used or run for a few years will need some work to bring it back to life. Has a few chips and minor scrapes in the fibreglass but not at all like the sad and incomplete bugs that come up on Ebay every so often after being found at the back of some lockup.
This particular bug was rebuilt from a poorly built car the last owner bought as a project, as he was a designer in the car industry, and a very skilled engineer, his attention to detail is outstanding. He was working on the design of the FX-4 London taxi at the time of the build so the bug has some FX-4 badges, these are not really relevant for the bug but obviously he thought it was a good idea - should be easy to get off if not to new owners taste.
The interior is basic but a bit shabby. Would benefit from a decent pair of bucket seats and updating the dash, which is marine ply with instruments out of an old Daimler or similar.
It has a Cooper tuned 1098cc engine, with 12G295 cylinder head, twin 1 1/4 inch SU carbs, etc. Front brakes are Cooper S 7.5 inch discs with servo assistance. Alloy wheels are as the main photo on this listing, Minilite style 10 inch alloys with good tyres.
The bodyshell is a fibreglass tub with all the front end subframe and suspension being mini. Rear suspension is beam axle with mini radius arms which all contribute to making this a very light vehicle.
It is a real blast to drive, with great handling to go with the powerful engine. As the rear end is so light it is easy to lose the back end, intentionally or by mistake. Would make a great track day car - maybe with a bigger and more powerful engine. As they say on the TV house make over programmes, its a blank canvas to stamp your mark on !
Has a sturdy roll over bar
Chassis number is MM-001 which indicates it is the first one that Mini Motors made, so makes it even more rare than the rest of its fellow bugs.
Wouldn't take much to get it sorted or could be stripped down and rebuilt to personal taste.
This is a rare little kit car and gets a lot of attention wherever it goes - very Austin Powers - you can't be shy in this little thing !
Currently stored in Sandycroft in North Wales. Literally minutes off a major road, the A494, which is a dual carriageway with easy access to Merseyside, Manchester and beyond via the motorway system, the western end of the M56 is not too far away, and dual carriageway all the way there.
Please email for further details or to arrange viewing.
This is not an auction, it is a Buy it Now listing with Best Offer option, so if you want it don't wait until someone else buys it ! I will listen to sensible offers but am not giving it away.........
All photos have been taken when it was last on the road several years ago and are not indicative of its present condition. Viewing can be arranged by prior appointment.
Prefer cash on collection. Please note this is an buy it now listing and if you buy it now you commit yourself to a contract, please do not expect to turn up and try tyre kicking or making silly offers.
Oversea buyers - please email before bidding. As the donor mini was first registered in 1983 the documentation for the bug shows this year, therefore it should be possible to export to North America but I cannot guarantee this.
I cannot help with shipping and buyers must make their own arrangements to collect within five days on listing end.
