brilliant dance routines, tricky in parts but mostly ok to follow at home. Love the tango routine!

If you're a 'Strictly' fan with a need to shed a few pounds, this is the dvd for you. Having embarked on an exercise programme using Camilla Dallerup's similar product, I knew that the subtle mixture of dance and gym would be useful for my dance-mad 80 (but looks 20 years younger) mother-in-law who doesn't get to dances now as much as she'd like. Erin and Karen's user-friendly style allows you to do as much or as little exercising as you wish and it's very watchable just sitting in a chair! Of course, any dvd claiming to cater for all ability and fitness levels runs the risk of pleasing no-one but this product allows you to fast-track, just dance along or anything in between, and used for a few minutes daily it really does replicate a trip to a pop-mobility session without the travel and hassle. It's best to get to know one dance routine really well and the slow start to each routine makes copying the moves really easy. And don't worry if you can't raise your arms fully - more restricted movements are encouraged if that's what you need to do. Pretty soon your instructors feel like old friends you've invited into your home and, like old friends, they tell the same stories over and over again but in a way that makes you feel good rather than pass-the-tea-vicar bored. With an original selling price close to £20, this dvd can be picked up for a song on Ebay. You'll know you're really fit when you can do all the routines one after another, but for the mere mortals among us a little and often association with the dvd is the way to go. When you buy one, you'll be very glad you did. Dave GiddensRead full review
I never watched much of the TV series Strictly come dancing when it was on, but fancied the work out video for soem good dance routines to tone up and enjoy. I was immediately caught by the glitzy cover and lsit of dance routines. The DVD consists of a warm up, Salsa, Jive, Quick Step, Samba, Cha Cha Cha and a cool down. I have little previous experience of dance and figured this wouldn't hinder my progress with this DVD. Firstly while instructed the video they refer back to the TV series quite a bit, expecting you to be familiar with the steps from there. They quickly run through the steps at the start of each routine (which I feel isnt explain well), you are then thrown into the routine which is them impossible to follow because you haven't overcome the steps. This comprimises the amount of cardio and fitness you can get out of the video, so the benifit to me is limited at the moment. It takes time to learn the routines and then dance along. I feel that this would be a much better DVD if time was spent giving clear teaching instructions to enable the DVD to appeal to a wider audience. Don't get me wrong, the DVDs fun when you get there, just stick with it.... Total Running time is approx. 100 mins. At the start of each routine 5 - 10 mins is spent going over moves in the routine, so total exercise time I would estimate at a reasonable hour. The DVD is made and presented by Karen and Erin from Strictly come dancing.Read full review
SUMMARY: Great music. Fun dance routines but rather complex for the inexperienced. Not as 'hard-core' as standard aerobics but more fun. Some routines take up too much space. A DVD for those with perseverance. IN DETAIL: If you are after a proper DANCE workout then this may be the DVD for you. It does exactly what it says - 'Dancercize'. It should not be confused with others that claim to be dancing but then turn out to be aerobics to pop tunes. Therefore at this point I shall add a warning - this is not a DVD for absolue beginners, the routines contain real dance steps and combinations that may leave those without any dance experience confused at best. If step-aerobics gets your feet in a tangle then my advice is to try something a little less complex! That said, if you have a mind for routies and picking up steps quickly then this DVD is fun and entertaining. The dance routines can be performed with varying degrees of energy so on your tired days you can just step it through and on others you can really go for it to get a harder cardio work-out of the same dance. One the down side of this though, some of the routines do not appear to have been choreographed for your average size lounge and so putting too much 'bounce' in your dance can result in broken lightbulbs and bruised shins... as I found out.... The presenters, are likeable enough and don't become too annoying even when you've watched it several times. Most of the routines are fun and uplifting and only occasionally slip into yor average style work out. They really have been choreographed with dance in mind so this is not necessarily the DVD for working up a hard core sweat to, but rather, learning the routines and building up your stamina and performance ability gradually while combining it with some nice stretches and interesting arm movements. The teaching of the routines vary, some steps get a good explanation but some are shown only the once meaning you may have to zap the DVD backwards to pick up the bits you missed. I found this really irritating after a few times as it interrupted the flow of the workout, and meant I had to spend longer learning it which meant my overall workout took longer. Obviously the more I did it, the more familiar the routines became. Patience to learn is definitely required however as some of the routines are very fast! To conclude, this DVD is great if you have a relatively large space to do it in and the perseverance to learn all the routines thoroughly. The music is just like that off Strictly Come Dancing and the routines have kept a real flavour of the dancing while being a great alternative to aerobics.Read full review
