Suzuki DR 250 'Djebel' Enduro bike
I bought this bike as a Japanese import from a dealer in Gateshead in August 2002 and it has been in my possesion ever since.
The limited edition 'Djebel' spec. (a desert wind, I think) includes the following:
A large and effective headlight, a stainless steel exhaust system (which I think could last the life of the bike), a higher capacity fuel tank and road tyres on purple rims!
My bike use:
Light commutes only, no off road, typically about 1500 miles a year, mainly used for trips to work...with top box and side bag for carrying luggage. Stored most winters.
I have all documentation (including the original internet advert), ten MOT's, full service history etc. No major problems through the years, parts have been trackable, eg chain and sprocket sets, top steering bearing etc.
Techy stuff and general feel of the bike:
The Djebel has an air cooled four stroke 250cc engine with integral oil cooler. I find 250 cc has been plenty, good acceleration, good economy and reliability. The bike is light and well balanced with the sloping seat giving a good riding position for someone with shorter legs (ie me!). Rear suspension is monoshock and works well. Basically it rides like new and has plenty of life left. My total mileage in ten years has been about 14000, meaning the bike now has about 30,000 on the clock.
It will sell with top box and bag and security chain.
No kickstart, so the battery needs to be kept in good condition (I've replaced mine about every three years, which has worked fine). The digital speedo etc reads in kilometers. Minor seat split (along one seam (about 2cms, repairable). A few paint dings, but nothing significant, pretty good condition generally, I have used touch up paint (white enamel mostly) as required.
Reason for sale:
I am about to become 57 and have decided to convert to an Brompton electric folding bike! The Djebel deserves a good home and will run and run, I think.
Haggle items if appropriate:
Good quality battery trickle charger, Slightly scruffy Raven bike jacket and good quality winter over trousers....medium size.
Two mid price full face/visor helmets, featuring a variety of paint scratches!
Selling with full MOT and twelve months tax (my insurance is currently £50 a year), buyer to collect from Drayton, Norwich, Norfolk. Cash on collection please. I think the Djebel is a pretty rare bike in the UK, so there may not be much info on the internet, obviously happy to answer any questions...
Looks like a lot of fun!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5OgvR3GCfk
