Up for auction I have on offer the exceptionally scarce true First Edition / First Printing of  `The Jungle Book` by Rudyard Kipling`. This is one of the most well known Children`s book ever written loved around the world hence this being a very special book. The Jungle Book was the basis for the scout movement founded by Baden Powell and it`s characters are still used today.

THE JUNGLE BOOK : Macmillan 1894; First Edition, First Printing, First Issue. Bound in its original blue cloth covers this is a handsome copy of this very rare First Edition in its original form. The covers have gilt titles to the spine and the three gilt elephants to the front as called for. On the whole this is an unusually bright and clean example of this 120 year old book with no major marks or flaws. The gilt is a touch faded to the spine and the corners are a touch softened. One small mark to the spine else all perfectly square, firm and strong with no splits or tears etc. Internally the book is as impressive presenting as a very good example. Complete with the original charcoal endpapers which have a couple of small cracks but no inscriptions or graffiti. Generally all the pages throughout remain clean with the odd age spot. The outer page block is brightly gilded which dazzles as called for. The book can easily be identified as the Very Rare True First Edition as it has the date of 1894 to the title page and the reverse of the page is blank. If it were a later print it would be dated on the reverse of the title page too. Illustrated frontis intact and in good condition with the original tissue guard in place. The book is illustrated throughout by J L Kipling (the authors father) W.H.Drake and P Frenzeny. All of the plates and illustrations are present and in excellent order.

So that`s it. An exciting find and a piece of Children`s literature that deserves to be cherished for the next 120 years+. Early prints of this book sell for hundreds in original condition and rebound First Prints for much more. This is a completely original FIRST PRINTING / FIRST ISSUE in its original state and is priced well below what other dealers are asking with the cheapest comparable example starting at £895
