We present a super quality original oil on canvas painting from the Dutch artist Toon (Antonius Henricus) Koster (1913 1990) an expansive landscape of a Dutch canal with fishing boats, cottages either side, a broad vista skyline.  Signed lower right as Toon Koster, possibly the work is dated, too close to the surname and unclear the work dates late 1960s to early 1970s.  Antonius Henricus Toon Koster, born Schiedam, Holland studied at the Rotterdam Art Academy of Fine Arts.  Much admired from an early age, Koster travelled all over the world and in 1940, settled in Nieuwkoop and subsequently in the northern parts of the Netherlands.  He was not only a celebrated and much exhibited painter of landscapes with dramatic skies, he was also a skilled watercolourist, print maker and enameller.  He painted in an impressionist style, often with touches of expressionism, often in strong, earthen colours.  His skies, in particular, stand bold in his paintings, dominating and intense, of which this work is a fine example.  A retrospective of his work held in 1998 was followed with a book of his life and work achievements, by Theo de With and Harry van Opstal.  Many examples of Toon Kosters work can be seen on artprice.com, arcadia.com, artnet.com, findartinfo.com and askart.com besides the websites of bonhams.com, christies.com and sothebys.com.  Presented in very good condition, this painting will look fabulous displayed.   OFFERED FOR SALE BY AUCTION, LOW START
