Detailed item information

Description
Holden Caulfield is a seventeen- year-old dropout who has just been kicked out of his fourth school. Navigating his way through the challenges of growing up, Holden dissects the 'phony' aspects of society, and the 'phonies' themselves: the headmaster whose affability depends on the wealth of the parents.

Description
Author BiographyJ D Salinger was born in 1919. He grew up in New York City, and wrote short stories from an early age, but his breakthrough came in 1948 with the publication in The New Yorker of 'A Perfect Day for Bananafish'. The Catcher in the Rye was his first and only novel, published in 1951. It remains one of the most translated, taught and reprinted texts, and has sold some 65 million copies. It was followed by three other books of short stories and novellas, the most recent of which was published in 1963. He lives in Cornish, New Hampshire.

PLEASE READ THE 'BLURB' BELOW FOR IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT POSTAGE, DELIVERY & CONDITION

  • YOUR ADDRESS - If you want the book sending to a different address to that registered on E-Bay  - please let me know via EBAY messages (dont just change it on Paypal) This is because I use ebay invoices to produce my postage slips.
  • UK POSTAGE - Within the UK all items are sent 2nd class or standard parcels (if weight is above 1kg) but if you would like an alternative method of delivery (eg recorded) please enquire for a revised quote.
  • INTERNATIONAL SALES - I usually post by AIRMAIL (delivery time 2-6 days). Outside Europe this can seem quite expensive relative to the cost of the book. Please dont purchase if you're not prepared to pay the quoted cost. I can offer a quote for cheaper SURFACE MAIL but be aware it can then take 6-12 weeks to arrive.
  • COMBINED POSTAGE - having to incorporate postage in the book price makes it difficult to demonstrate reduced postage costs when you buy more than one book - but I will always try and pass any pro rata savings on to you. This can be signficant but if the weight creeps just over 1kg (and I have to use 1st class) there might not be much of a saving. If in doubt wait until I send an invoice before you pay.
  • PROCESSING TIME - please understand that E BAY is not my life or my job (its just a hobby). I have a 'real' full time job & a family at home and can only 'do E-bay stuff' a couple of days a week (usually Thursday and Sunday). If  you dont receive an invoice or reply to a query straight away please dont be offended. I do however promise to post all books within one week of payment.
  • LOST ITEMS - I obtain proof of postage for most items I send- if it ends up lost or delayed it really is not my fault! and I think leaving negative feedback for this reason is completley unreasonable - far better to contact me and I will try and obtain a refund from the Post Office (may take a few weeks)
  • NON PAYMENT - I appreciate you have busy lives to lead and will not hassle you for non-payment until 2 weeks after purchase date (although I may send a reminder). After this time if you dont contact me I will have to open an unpaid dispute since this is the only way I get my ebay fees refunded.

Condition of books

Its in my interest to be honest about the condition of any book I sell - significant defects are described using standard book trade jargon. The level of detail I use differs depending on whether the item is collectible, valuable or just a trade paperback to be read and enjoyed (I won't waste my time describing in detail a cheap mass produced paperback).

If condition is critical to you please email for more details (or photographs)

As a general guide the following descriptions are used

Mint - as new

Fine - almost as new,  slight signs of use or shelf wear.  A Fine Dustjacket has no tears and only minimal  rubbing to edges

VG - Very Good condition - this is usually relative to age and 'expected condition'. Item will have no major defects (other than those described). May have small inscription from a previous owner. A VG Dustjacket may have rubbing to edges and some creasing.

Good - acceptible condition for its age - if its a paperback it will have creases to cover or spine. Book will be intact with tight spine but pages may be yellowed with age. A Good Dustjacket will be intact but will probably have tears and creases or be chipped - It may also be sun faded

Reference / reading copy - Intact and useable but showing major signs of ageing or usage  - however still useful as a reading or a reference copy - too good to throw away - may therefore have a lower  price

In an attempt to de-clutter my existence I will be listing thousands of my books on a wide range of subjects and interests over the coming months - add me to your favourites to keep updated
