As a Features Writer for The Yorkshire Times, literary critic and incompetent aspirational author, words fascinate me...this book delivers erudition cloaked beneath witty badinage and tongue-in-cheek levity. Simply wonderful!

This book is absolutely amazing, the guy is a fantastic writer, clearly he knows his stuff but its so well written its a pleasure to read. Full of 'omg' type facts. The evolution of words is truly fascinating however the author makes it fun and witty too. If there were ever a book i would call unputdownable this would be it. It went everywhere with me til it was read. Then half the stuff id forgotten so it was in no way boring to keep redipping into. Ive recommended it to thankful friends, its a wonderful gift too. Top marks to the Inky Fool. I told him that too.
for anyone interested in the English language and in particular the origin of many commonly used words and phrases, this is absolutely essential reading. The brevity of the individual chapters at around 2 to 3 pages make it ideal bedtime reading ( 2 chapters to zizz time max) but also each chapter leads seamlessly on from the preceding one making it flow very nicely. Just a great read.
fab bedside book funny and educational
