This film stars Al Hedison (better known as Captain Crane in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, an excellent series from the 60s, in which he was billed as David Hedison) as the inventor of a matter transporter, who becomes a victim of his own genius. During an experiment to transport himself, he ends up mutated as half fly, half man, when a house fly becomes trapped in the machine. The race is then on to find the other half of the mutation, a fly with the head of the inventor, to try and reverse the process. Most film fans will, I suspect, be more familiar with Jeff Goldblum's incarnation as the inventor, which is also a brilliant production. This film, it's forerunner, is just as exciting and features no gore like the sequel, which can be off-putting to the more sensitive viewer. Well worth a look.Read full review
