To avoid disappointment, always be sure to read the item’s detailed condition description.
Buyers please note:
Your book will need to be signed-for on arrival.
You are strongly recommended to read my notes on postage/shipping, especially if you are buying from overseas. (scroll down to view)
See also below for answers to most frequently asked questions. If there is anything else you would like to know, please contact me. I will get back to you as soon as I can. For your security and convenience, please always use the "ask a question" link, currently right at bottom of this page (NOT the ‘contact seller’ link.)
How I describe my books:
Sellers are now required to use this website’s own book condition grades, which are: ‘new,’ ‘like new,’ ‘very good,’ ‘good,’ and ‘acceptable.’ (These are not quite the same as those used in the book trade, so where they differ I give both).
The above can obviously only be a rough guide to condition, so because I want you to know exactly what you are buying, I do my best to add, where necessary, a very full description, warts-n-all. Please remember, however, that books lead hard lives and few second-hand copies are perfect. Some sellers may choose not to mention the often fairly trivial faults that I describe, but they are still there!
Terms and conditions:
Paying for your book
Payment is by PayPal only. This service is completely free to the buyer.
PayPal is a secure card processor, enabling you to pay for eBay items using most credit or debit cards. No seller will ever see your card details so it’s very safe. It’s one of the eBay group of companies and now has over 150 million account holders. It’s easy and quick to sign up for it. You will also be protected by the PayPal guarantee.
I regret, I will not under any circumstances accept payment by other means than PayPal.
UK Postage(see below for overseas postage/shipping)
Your book will need to be signed for on arrival (not necessarily by the addressee but by someone at that address).
I cannot consider claims for lost books that have been signed for.
Books weighing more than 2kg including packaging will normally be dispatched by insured parcel post. They won’t need to be signed for but may take longer to arrive.
I always send a dispatch email, via eBay messaging, confirming your address and telling you when you might expect to receive your book.
Your book will be dispatched only to the address you gave to PayPal (which may not be the same as the one you gave eBay). Please ensure that this is correct and up-to-date. You should especially check that the postcode is correct (they are very often not!). Many buyers find it convenient to temporarily alter their PayPal address to that of their work place.
Your book will normally come with a PayPal packing slip. This has the price on. If you don’t want a packing slip – perhaps because the book is intended as a gift – please tell me when you order. Next day may be too late!
My official dispatch time is‘within 4 working days’ but in practice I will usually dispatch your book on the next working day after purchase (excluding Saturdays and some Wednesdays) and sometimes even on the day of purchase, although I cannot guarantee this. However, now and again, for reasons beyond my control, I may have to go to the full four days. I will always send you a dispatch note via eBay messages, telling you exactly when I intend to post your book. Please note, however, that I am not the Royal mail. Once your book is in the post I have no control over when it will arrive. If it’s later than you expected, please check the postage label on the package, which will tell you if I dispatched it when I said I would. More I cannot do! I do not appreciate receiving bad feedback for late delivery when it’s the fault of the Royal Mail, or due to bad weather. Would you? If dispatch time is critical, please ask me about it before ordering.
NOTE: I do not offer personal collection.
Unless it says otherwise in the book description, I ship worldwide. The shipping price for your country or world region should appear at the top of this page. You may have to click on a link.
All European countries and regions have the same postage/shipping rate.
All countries and regions outside Europe have the same postage/shipping rate.
My standard overseas shipping method is airmail, international Signed-for. But please note: you are only being charged for ordinary airmail. The Signed-for part is FREE.
The package will have to be signed for on arrival. (I cannot consider claims for lost books that have been signed for).
Your book will be dispatched only to the address you gave to PayPal (which may not be the same as the one you gave eBay). Please ensure that this is correct and up-to-date. You should especially check that the postal code or zip code is correct (they are very often not!).
I always send a dispatch email, via eBay messages.
Your book will normally come with a PayPal packing slip. This has the price on. If you don’t want a packing slip, please tell me when you order. Next day may be too late. I have found that it’s unwise to include a packing slip when sending to some destinations and I may decide to leave it out. I will inform you of this.
Surface mail is now more expensive than airmail within Europe and only a little cheaper elsewhere. It can also be unreliable and your book can take months to arrive. If you would like a quote, please ask, but I don’t recommend it.
Airmail delivery times
Airmail to most destinations usually takes about 3-14 days but can occasionally take much longer, especially at Christmas, or if your Customs Service decides to take an interest in it. Kindly don’t leave me bad feedback for a long delivery time — I am not the Post Office. Especially, I am not your Post Office.
US buyers please note that because of security concerns the US postal service will now only accept heavier airmail packets (which includes most books) by cargo plane, or even surface mail, not via passenger flights. This will occasionally impact on delivery times, especially at busy times of year. Obviously this is entirely outside my control, so I hope that if your book is late you will be patient and not leave me bad shipping time feedback. Please contact me if you have any concerns and I will track the book for you, as far as I am able.
An unacceptably high proportion of packages to this destination currently become‘lost’. I am advised that dispatching to a PO box number helps, or perhaps you may be able to arrange for the item to be sent to another destination for later collection. I strongly advise against ordering a high-value book to be sent to a South African street address and will not be responsible if it does not arrive.
I cannot send packages weighing more than 2Kg to Canada.
Please note that unless the ‘make an offer’ button is enabled on this listing I am not open to offers. Thank you.Business address
E-commerce regulations now state that I must give my registered business address, which you will find in a link near the bottom of this page. The address is a private one and no books are kept there. Please note that mine is strictly a mail-order business; I do not accept personal callers. Books purchased will be swiftly dispatched by Royal Mail and cannot be collected.
If you feel that a book is not as described I will accept its return. It must be returned within fourteen days of receipt and in packaging as sturdy as that in which the book was dispatched. The item must arrive back in the same condition in which I sent it out. You must send it ‘signed for.’ If the book is of high value (over 100x a first-class stamp) you may wish to consider using special delivery, for the extra insurance. Please let me know if you intend to make a return.
All my books are dispatched in sturdy cardboard packaging. I never use‘bubble-bags’, which are about as much use as a chocolate teapot and should be banned! The cost of packaging is included in my general overheads, not in my postage prices.
As you can see by clicking on my member name (in blue under‘seller info,’) I have very few complaints. However, if you are less than happy with some aspect of my service, kindly email me about it before you leave feedback or ‘detailed seller ratings.’ Please remember that if you don’t tell me of your concerns I can’t do anything about them!
