THE JUNGLE BOOK
Macmillan And Co : London, 1894
The RARE First Edition / First Printing
**Important Original Victorian Classic**
You are bidding on a very scarce True UK First Edition / First Printing of the important Victorian classic `The Jungle Book`. This is one of the best known stories in the world and its popularity has never dwindled. A classic in its own right and a high point in Children`s literature. Please see below for a full description.
THE JUNGLE BOOK : Rudyard Kipling, Macmillan And Co: London 1894. UK FIRST EDITION /FIRST PRINTING. Bound in its original blue cloth covers with gilt titles and decoration this a completely original and un-restored example of this scarce children`s book. The covers on the whole present well remaining clean and bright. A little bumping to the corners and spine tips which is acceptable for a children`s book of this period. The gilt has faded a touch on the front only but is still a lot brighter than usually seen. No splits to the cloth and the book sits nice and square. Internally the book again presents very well with the original dark charcoal endpapers intact. No inscriptions or owner names with all the outer page edges brightly gilded as called for. The original frontis is attached and in good condition with its original tissue guard. The book is clearly dated 1894 to the main title page with the verso of this page blank. This shows it to be the correct true First Printing as reprints would be listed there. Contents on the whole very good with some mild scattered foxing throughout as to be expected. Numerous full page and interspersed illustrations throughout all in good order. All hinges tight and solid with no splits or cracks etc. Overall a decent and unusually bright example of this Rare classic which was the basis for the scout movement started by Baden Powell. A book that should be in any serious collection or a perfect special gift.
More often than not this book turns up in a very bad state or rebound hence the original examples being so highly sought after. This one will not disappoint and is priced well below the other handful of collectable examples out there.
I will be listing some special books this week including many children`s classics.
