The Lucky Silver Sixpence by The Royal Mint Ltd

There are so many occasions when you would like to wish a good friend or loved-one good luck. Exams, driving test, a new job, buying a new home... or just to say 'thanks'. A genuine silver sixpence is an ideal way to express your finest wishes.

When you 'say it with a sixpence' your thoughtful gift makes sure to be cherished both now, as a priceless moment in time, and in the future forever.

First introduced in 1551 during the reign of Edward VI the 'tanner', as it has come to be affectionately known, has actually long been considered as a fortunate coin. Throughout WWII, Royal Air Force aircrews flew missions with a sixpence sewn behind their wings. At wedding celebrations, the father of the bride would slip one into his child's shoe and at Christmas, youngsters would hope to be the one to find the fortunate sixpence stirred in to their dessert.

The silver sixpence you'll receive is dated between 1920 and 1946 and was struck at The Royal Mint, then situated at Tower Hill in London. As this is a genuine coin that was once in circulation, The Royal Mint have selected the very best of those that have endured to today. Depending upon the year, it provides the head of either George V or George VI.

Beautifully shown in a smart gift box, it has an informative booklet with room for you to compose your own special message to make an absolutely specific gift that will certainly be valued forever.
