Each volume features soft leather soft covers/wraps, with inside front + rear marbled paper end-papers. There's a gold/maize toned satin ribbon marker per volume. The paper quality is smooth, w/ a hint of a sheen. This obviously was a very good paper which has aged well, with no foxing, warping, discoloration, etc. There is a Frontispiece in each volume, with original and 100% intact tissue page separator, per volume. Surprisingly, the tissue papers have NOT yellowed or stained the adjacent title pages, which is oft so common.
Please refer to the above "Condition" box description, and the photos, as I will let that all suffice for condition concerns. I do have several more close-up photos I can provide, upon a request.
Note: Volume III shows the most heavy 'damage' with the spine degradation and the full separation of the front leather cover piece. It's a fairly clean separation though. Also on Vol. III, the rear leather cover is attached, but the leather is 90% separated from the interior piece of marbled end-paper. Perhaps someone out there has skill and know-how to artfully re-attach...?
There are way too many unique excerpt and works contained in this 3-volume set for me to try and type it all out, but I am happy to assist if a borderline buyer wants to confirm a specific essay or poem herein, etc.
Each volume is divided into Parts 1-3, each commencing w/ an Introduction.
Broadly, it seems that Vol. I features the lengthier (short) stories; Vol. II has short stories, with its Part 2 being solely "A. Gordon Pym"; and Vol. III some commentary about Poe's death, stories, and Part 3 is solely various poems - numerous classics you would expect in such a volume.
- Vol. I - 23 + 190
- Vol. II - 20 + 189
- Vol. III - 13 + 176
* first # denotes the prefatory Roman-numeral pages; the Arabic numeral count does not account for the "blank" un-numbered sheet pages.

These must be handled w/ much delicacy and care. Unfortunately these got moved around a lot this past 4 years, and they took a beating. They sat for years untouched at my late Grandmother's house, and looked better in 2009 than they do now . . . several house moves later.
Frankly, every time these are handled or perused, there is always a bit of miniscule debris coming off of the volumes.
