As the title says, I WOULD have preferred the Alcantara (or the Leather) covered version of this wheel. However, the Leather version is around twice the price of this one; and the Alcantara is about 10% more than that (and I'm greedy and wanted the 'F1' version of the Thrustmaster Wheels as well). The construction & materials of the wheel make a good impression, giving you a feeling that the wheel is well made. The finish of metal centre boss looks great with a reasonable amount of buttons, which are placed well and have a nice firm feeling to push and are coloured appropriately for a racing wheel, the 2 position manettino style button has a smooth feeling with a lovely click to it's 'push-to-select' switch. The buttons are all assignable when used with a P.C., however, when used with an XBox One the 'A & B' buttons should be reversed (same for & 'X & Y'), but you get used to it and it's just my opinion, you may feel differently. The Dark Red wheel-centre position marker is metal and looks brilliant and is secured with a small screw, meaning it can be removed/changed without too much trouble. All this adds up to a wheel that is quite heavy, which gives it a good 'feel' and a nice amount of rotational momentum when racing, esp. compared to the lightweight plasticky toy-like feel of the Thrustmaster TX Base's standard '458 Italia' wheel. The only real downside is the money-saving rubber-like covering to the metal rim of the wheel, although it does have quite a good feel in your hands and is easy to grip, without feeling too tacky or sticky and does prevent it slipping in your hands. However, because of this, it does tend to pick up dirt (and skin cells) if your hands aren't really clean, and because of its surface it is difficult to easily clean the surface; as such, it may be better to wear lightweight driving gloves, even for Sim-Racing. A set of gloves would also prevent the wheels only 'serious' fault from really niggling at you; and that is that the rubber is moulded onto the rim in two halves, the seam is raised and is not fully removed during manufacturing. During a long and intense racing session this seam can rub on your fingers and starts to feel like a much bigger problem; it can be rubbed down with emery boards/paper and removed, but this will spoil the finish. If, after buying the TX or T300 Wheel Base, you are on a budget (or in my case greedy), this is a great option as an authentic looking 'add-on' racing wheel, it's quite cheap, it's very functional, feels brilliant and looks fantastic. A winner in every sense (Yep! it has even allowed me, not the best sim-racer by any means, to win more races).Read full review
