If you're someone that liked hearing her on your radio in the 1980's and early '90's - this CD's perfect! It even has the original version of "River Deep - Mountain High" from 1966 - a nice bonus! Another thing I liked was that the original 'single' versions were used. Highly recommended!!
The album includes Turner's most popular hits since her comeback in the early-mid 1980s. It also includes three new songs that were previously unreleased; "Love Thing" (UK Airplay #13), "I Want You Near Me" (#22 UK), and "Way of the World" (UK Airplay #6 and UK #13) as well as a re-recorded dance version of Turner's classic "Nutbush City Limits", all of which were also issued as singles in 1991 and 1992. The album is Turner's biggest seller in the UK where it is one of the best selling albums of all time for sales in excess of 2.4 million copies.[1] It was certified 8x platinum in the UK and stayed on the UK charts for over 140 weeks. The album sold 7 million copies worldwide.[2] The compilation was released with a different track listing in the U.S. with the songs "Addicted to Love (Live)" and "Be Tender With Me Baby" being replaced by "What You Get Is What You See" and "Look Me in the Heart". In Australia, some limited edition releases included a five track bonus disc with some rare recordings such as "(Simply) The Best", the re-recording featuring Jimmy Barnes, and "I'm a Lady", the B-side to "Love Thing".Read full review
I must admit the title song 'the best' is one of those standards now I challenge anyone (drunk or sober) not to sing along with the chorus!- it is so catchy. Similarly the 'Thunderdome' Mad Max theme is a song that gets into the psyche and is unforgettable. There are many such songs belted out by the formidable Ms Turner in her unique style. there are a couple of forgettable tunes also (I am sorry to say) but the majority or the contents is an excellent addition to anyones collection. My big disappointment was the classic 'Nutbush city limits', a song I bought as a single when it was first released. This track is a more updated version, and as such there is no Ike doing what he was good at on the guitar - and no matter how great Tina Turner can scream out the lyrics, the funky guitar rhythm was the catch, and in this version its absence is a dissappointment. All in all a good album and a very enjoyable one at that.Read full review
This Cd became available at a very Low price via another E-Bayer (who happens to be a friend at my workplace). It contains many of her best recordings (only my opinion) particularly "River deep Mountain high" debatedly my all time favourite track off any artist ever (it would have to fight of some of Queens musical tracks though as i rate them the best Rock group ever). I therefore could not resist it, some artists live some die some go on forever if only the likes of Tina could go on forever and continue to give enjoyment to people like myself,a Fan.
