Triumph Spitfire 1500 with Overdrive recent Cat D insurance write-off for project or spares.
This is a very nice example of a 1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500 which I unfortunately crunched the back end on the drivers side last September. The car, which is metallic racing green, was (and still is) a beautiful runner which had had thousands recently spent on it. (The final picture shows the car in August last summer). It also has a decent working overdrive box.
In late September I put the back end of the car through a dry stone wall which crunched in the offside wing, the rear bumper, valance, and slightly bent the front offside lower wishbone and the steering rack. This was enough for the insurance to class it as a write-off as would be expected when it comes to a Classic Car. There is no mechanical damage as far as I can see - the only front end damage is the steering rack (which I have got a replacement for and will include) and the lower wishbone (a very easy replacement). This means she is currently difficult to steer, will really only steer one way until the rack is changed - but that is simple stuff and doesn't even need a ramp.
I have also got a brand new fibre glass replacement wing for the damaged one which will also be included in the sale. Plus a light cluster cover (all lights work, including those on the bumper and the chrome 'Triumph number plate lights are undamaged and can be moved straight to a new bumper.) I will also include a replacement drivers door which is relatively rot free and contains new door glass etc (the current one is on the way out, the passenger side's is in good condition.) One or two of the alloy wheels are damaged but the others are in very good condition.
The engine had a new head gasket last year and was fully serviced, along with a lot of other work, at great expense. The alternator and battery are also new, along with various other parts (everything that needed replacing was replaced and I had just got to the stage where I was content with her as a car and very much enjoying her, before crashing her!)
The interior is in fairly good condition in a very nice cream leather with green piping and pretty new green carpets, decent leather steering wheel, decent wood dash, all dials (all working) etc. Any parts of dash trim/knee pads not shown in pictures are in the boot (so included). The hood needs replacing as the side windows are both torn (zip out rear window is fine and the frame is fine as well.)
The gearbox is a new reconditioned one which I only bought and fitted last summer (from jigsaw racing). However, since moving the car recently I am unable to get it into any gear. However the box is still under its 1 years warranty from jigsaw racing until July (it cost £350).
I am VERY reluctantly putting my car up for auction as I have been posted to Germany and cannot house it in the UK and won't have those summer Saturday afternoons to tinker...
The car is just outside Warminster in Wiltshire and will obviously need to be trailored away (Cat D write-off means no MOT/tax!) If you win the auction I will need you to collect her fairly promptly as she is currently on a friend's land and can't stay there.
