The LX5 is a couple of generations behind the current model, but it's a good camera nevertheless that produces sharp images with good colour rendition and control of aberrations. The very sharp lens is equivalent to 24-90mm in 35mm, which is a very useful range without sacrificing image quality too much. There are plenty of control options (my main camera is a DSLR) including a macro facility and (slightly clunky) manual focus, with the option of a manual viewfinder that can be bought separately. The sensor is small compared with most modern enthusiast compacts (and some phones) but still produces a good image; I've had one enlarged to 12x18" and I'm pleased with the results. Easily fits in the pocket of a light coat or a small day bag.

The LX 5 does a decent enough job. The controls are well laid out and easy to manage. But, if you want something a bit better, the Sony RX100 and RX100ll are on a totally different level

I bought this Panasonic LX5 camera one month ago and really satisfied with photos quality. For taking pictures inside the camera's flash is acceptable - but you can use external flash in the room (if necessary). Good enough camera with Auto & Manual settings for enthusiast photographers - I'd recommend the camera for making pictures not only in Auto mode (if you want to set exposure, white balance or focus manually). Compact design (comparing wit SLR) - without any problems fits in a pocket. Excellent Leica lens with selection of 16:9, 4:3 and 3:2 formats.
Being an artist, I bought this camera specifically to take high resolution images of paintings in order to produce fine art prints form them. Having used it now for a number of weeks I can't fault it. The picture quality is excellent, producing super high quality art prints from the images taken. Auto focusing is the best I've used on a compact camera, with crystal clear images every time. The Leica lens performs superbly and produces beautifully sharp images in quite low light conditions, meaning you hardly ever have to use the flash. All in all a very good high end compact camera, which act like a mini DSLR. I'd recommend it highly!
So far takes a bit of getting used to the adjustment of exposure value / speed / aperture with the press of the wheel and rotate, well it's hit and miss, on the more basic models its simple this one takes too long even a land scape can move in to the next season by the time its sorted, otherwise although i'm only two months in to its use and still looking forward to using it for pleasure . . . rather than recording detail for work i think its a canny piece of kit preference would be the fuji but i really need the 24 mm equiv. and that was the price i was willing to pay despite the 700 quid saving still lots of experimenting to do and looking forward to it, well an addition to this at three months in i realised that the push and turn exposure wheel is stuffed not the only time i heard of this now i think its a weak point in this model took to Aus. too expensive to repair, guy in the shop said, ar look mate al sell yer a beder camera for the same that it'll cost t repair . . . mate so if you do buy second hand don't leave it too long before you really learn the ins and outsRead full review
