This is probably the only Astra estate with a functional turbojet engine in the world! This car is street legal with a current MOT and TAX. Could do with a paint job , otherwise ready to use. This car has great potential for a bit of relatively cheap fun and also as a promotion tool . This reluctant sale is due to being badly let down by someone I was building this with who was going to drive it, I can’t run it at race tracks on my own and no one else is interested so its got to go. If this is sold quickly then an invite to PVS at Santapod on June 10th has been made to this car for which attendance needs to be confirmed very soon. Jet engine is a Rolls Royce Nimbus 103 which has been converted from a turboshaft to a turbojet with an afterburner fitted. The original turbo shaft made up to 900bhp , but as they were never officially made as turbojets there are no confirmed thrust figures but these have been estimated at around 600-800lbs plus another 300-400lbs from the afterburner. The engine is completely controlled from the drivers seat and has the option of on-board batteries or remote starting from an external battery to save 50kg weight. This can run on virtually any flammable liquid , but best on kerosene ( paraffin) . The jet fuel tank is separate from the original car tank so it can run on different fuels. A service manual is also supplied with this engine. Engine is designed to slide out in one piece quite easily ( just unplug wiring harness and disconnect throttle cables ) onto a wheeled stand supplied for service / inspection. The original car engine is a 1.6l 16v XEL with an aftermarket ‘power box’ inlet and 4-branch exhaust manifold giving around 120bhp. Other mods to car : Bucket seats 4 point 2” harnesses ( E marked, mot legal) Aftermarket steering wheel Roll cage incorporating a support platform for the engine. Suspension has been lowered 60mm Aftermarket front bumper with mesh grill Side exit exhausts. Side skirts supplied , but need modifying to fit around exhaust if used. Polycarbonate rear door , quarter light and back windows Onboard fire extinguisher Black alloys with low profile tyres Door cards, rear seats, headlining and carpet are all stripped out Rear view camera Rear window demister and wiper removed. Extractor fans in back window The heater is left for window demisting , but there are no vents blowing into the drivers compartment . The car has central locking but this is not working at the moment ( all doors lock individually ) . The sunroof has been replaced with a non opening polycarbonate panel, all other standard equipment is present and working. Rear disc brake conversion parts supplied but not fitted. Can be seen running - to serious buyers only, ie: if you want to buy on condition it works , no free demos for timewasters. The engine has been run up a few times and is all OK , the afterburner has not actually been used yet and may need a bit of setting up - but I am willing to help out here if needed. I would prefer to sell this complete, but if no interest then I will take offers on any parts as listed above. NOTE: This engine is past its certified flight hours so MUST NOT be used for flight without a complete professional overhaul and is sold with NO guarantee whatsoever , apart from that it will fire up and run when purchased. This is reflected in the price as new these cost several hundred thousand pounds in today’s money.
