This is a vintage Surveying Level made by Hilger & Watts.
It has a makers plate on the side which has the following information: Hilger & Watts, Made in England, SL102-5 & 182981.
The 182981 indicates it was made in 1964/5.
It consists of a base unit with a removable lid that is complete with carrying strap. The strap is leather and the lid is steel.
The base is probably aluminium. The main unit could be brass or aluminium, it is certainly non-magnetic.
The unit can be detached from the base. There are two built in spirit levels for levelling purposes.
There are three levelling screws for the main unit and another for the scope.
The eye piece has focus adjustment and there is a knurled knob on the side for distance focus. It can be rotated 360 degrees.
I have had a play with this and everything seems to be working. I am not sure what the maximum focus length is but I have focused on a tree that is 300 ft from my back window.
(NOTE: the viewed image is upside down). i am sure there are a couple of accessories missing as there are two sets of clips in the base which have nothing in them !!
This has been well used and the lid has numerous chips, scratches, scuffs and small dents.
The main unit also has numerous paint chips and scuffs. The two sets of clips are rusty/corroded. The rubber lid seal around the base shows signs of perishing.
The plastic eye piece has a few chips and there is one small chip in the front lens although this cannot be seen when focusing.
