For sale here is a 1930s-1940s Vitascope clock. Made on the Isle of Man and standing appx 32cm tall x 23 wide x 16 deep its casing is a sort of Ivory Bakelite featuring a chrome dial and hands as seen.

The clock,as you will no doubt already be aware, has a moving display at the top with a Clipper ship on an ocean in front of a cloudy sky. The ship rocks pleasingly back and forth, behind which the sky changes colour from a yellowy dawn kind of hue through to a reddish dusk by way of a coloured filter in front of the internal bulb.

Condition wise the clock is good but not without a little accumulated wear and tear. The Bakelite casing may benefit from a professional clean as it looks like it's cleaned through to a lighter share in the odd spot, I'm not an expert so haven't pursued the cleaning myself !

As is almost mandatory with these clocks and much Bakelite there's the odd chip, I've shown them in the pictures. One is to the rear right ( from the rear viewpoint ) and the other beneath the clock on the lower left corner. It therefore displays perfectly without repair as the chips are at the rear or underneath when looked at from the front  . I'm taken to understand Bakelite restores very well and reasonably easily but again- no expert so I'll leave that to the new owner !!

Mechanically it is good news. I must stress that for the purposes of this listing and safety I will send the clock with no plug fitted. The main supply cable MIGHT just have been upgraded to a more modern one - I can't be sure though - but internally it'll all be original so OLD wiring and components ! So I do have to offer it as a display item for legal purposes. Suffice it to say though the clock ran sweetly for 6 hours this morning, keeping time beautifully over that short period. The lighting changes gradually , hopefully the pics show a bit of contrast in the hues . The ship has a little starter on the back a small turn of this will set it in motion and it'll just keep on rocking from there on . The clock switches on the rear .

The metal back plate has all the screws and serial number stamped on as pictured ,it stands slightly proud at the sides as it only fixes top & bottom. More expert hands than mine would no doubt bend it back the other way but it's as if is right now.

The glass front window is intact as shown, quite a few of these I've seen offered have cracked/broken glass so this ones in as good order as most. I cannot see any issues whatsoever with the ship, again if something's going to give with these clocks it's usually a sail or the rigging on the ship !

So there it is !! I'm offering it for collection in person though would deliver within a reasonable distance, I'm not offering shipping after a warning from a local dealer who was scammed by a buyer who it turned out was offering a clock with broken glass for sale themselves a few months before buying from this friend. The person who received the' broken' clock mysteriously offered the SAME clock they'd previously had broken with INTACT glass the week after obtaining a full refund from my friend . So I would just prefer to pass it to the hands of the new owner and cash change hands at this point .

Price wise I've put a ' or best offer' on the clock, I've watcher these over a few years and tip top ones have brought big money,in excess of £1000 in cases last year. Last winter the prices seemed to be running £300+ for a damaged poor / non functioning one to £800 for a good one so in my inexperience I've asked about and gone on previous pricing. I'm not in a desperate rush to sell so please don't make silly offers, I will respond to sensible ones

Any questions please drop me a line, I'll do my best to answer anything I can .
