Van JOHNSON, American Film Star. Superb HAND SIGNED WWII Autograph Card. In FINE condition. GUARANTEED GENUINE.

This superb Van JOHNSON autograph is on a card of the US Naval Aid Auxiliary. A war-time organization, the NAA set up canteens across the country to provide entertainment and temporary housing for servicemen transferring from one location to another. The NAA had access to stars who performed in their canteens and sold their autographs as a fund raiser. The autographs were on a specially printed red, white, and blue cards with the logo of the NAA.

Van Johnson (1916 – 2008) was an American film and television actor and dancer who was a major star at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios during and after World War II. Johnson was a popular Hollywood star in the '40s and '50s," playing "the red-haired, freckle-faced soldier, sailor or bomber pilot who used to live down the street" in MGM movies during the war years with such films as Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, A Guy Named Joe and The Caine Mutiny. He also appeared in many musicals. During his later years he frequently appeared on the stage and TV. At the time of his death in 2008, he was one of the last surviving matinee idols of Hollywood's "golden age."

This card was purchased at an auction at one of London's major auction houses and is GUARANTEED GENUINE.
