This is a moving account of one person's recollections and suffering during a truly awful time in British and human history. Having recently been to Changi museum it was even more poignant. Yet somehow despite all this, Eric Lomax somehow managed to find some form of personal solace if not closure. In all the general history of the war in the far east and the treatment of British and other nationalities at the hands of the Japanese, this focuses it down to the individual. The book itself is as described and was delivered on time.

This book led onto the film The Railway Man (colin Firth) and is indeed one of the most compelling true accounts of a series of events, that came about as a result of Japanese mistreatment of Allied POW,s, during the 2nd WW. Its probably best NOT to go for a hardback copy, the page material is not of the best grade and the fly cover is particularly poor, being soft. sugary and easily damaged, it took three attempt to acquire a reasonably presentable copy, though Baham books were excellent in their efforts. A good quality paperback version might be a better bet. Mzp53
