Beautiful, Vintage, Made in Germany in 1962, Hofner 185 Artist Bass. Serial no. 956. 

This bass is a real gem. Born in the glorious, nay, Halcyon days of British Beat! You can imagine it in the Cavern, The Star Club or Burns Howf! (What happened to Dean Ford & the Gaylords??) 

Plays great, looks great, sounds great and has that real 'Beatles' 'Merseybeat' Vintage tone from the original 'diamond' pickups.

All original apart from top horn nickel strap button. Hard to find in this condition.

The guitar is covered in the standard Hofner red vinyl finish with white binding. 

There are several asthetic blemishes on the body, head stock and neck, which can be expected with a bass pushing 50, but it's really in terrific and extremely playable condition. 

It comes with an original period 'snake skin' rectangular hard case which needs some TLC. Needs new catches/handle. I don't know if its a Hofner case but it was purchased with the bass new in 1962. 

The bass has been professionally set up and serviced by 'Strung Out' of Glasgow so it plays superbly and sounds as good as new. 

A great item for the Hofner collector or just a great playable bass with loads of vintage vibe and character.
