Welcome to my auction for this lovely, original Dansette RG30 record player / combined radio from the early 1960’s. Fully serviced and restored by a qualified City & Guilds engineer. Finished in the original green and cream combination this Dansette “Radiogram” could be the centrepiece of any party just as it was 50 years ago!
The player has been extensively serviced throughout; the cabinet stripped of all metalwork and thoroughly cleaned and polished before re-assembly after the old tarnished metalwork was cleaned (handle ends and domes re-furbished) and put back on the player. The lid latches are original and sparkle again as they originally did some 53 years ago. It has a new radio dial fitted behind the tuning knob on the front and new de-cals behind the main controls. As you can see in the pictures it looks fantastic for its age.
You will see from the pictures that the player is not mint condition. There are some scratches and scuffs here and there (top of cabinet being the most noticeable) which can be plainly seen. The legs have had a little light re-furbishment to the tips (one of which has a minor split to the outer steel foot – see picture) but this does not deter in anyway the sturdiness of the legs, they are fine and strong! The record deck shows a little wear with a few small chips consistent with age and some light fading to the speaker cloth. Although only small, these marks and scuffs have to be pointed out.
Electrically and mechanically the player has been fully serviced. The twin valve amplifier re-built with all new capacitors and new (old stock) valve combination. The radio (LW/MW only) also serviced and works well. There’s not many stations left on these frequencies to listen to these days but there are a few and they sound good. A new, double insulated and earthed mains lead is fitted together with a 3A fused plug.
The BSR autochanger (UA14 style finished in light green) has been stripped, cleaned and re-lubricated to original specifications and works with precision and accuracy. Take a close look at the pick-up head in the pictures. You’ll see that part of the old turnover mechanism has been left in place for authenticity and aesthetics. A newer stereo cartridge is fitted behind it (wired for mono) with a new flip over stereo stylus fitted for your record care. A copy of the UA14 turntable instructions will be included with the player.
The player is capable of playing all speeds (16-33-45-78) and sizes (7”-10”- 12”) of record either fully automatically or manually as required. A maximum of eight singles can be “stacked” for automatic play at any one time.
Overall it’s a super piece of nostalgia in nice condition and fully serviced.
