|Seller notes:||“Originally a very good quality, well made item. You can see this the the close knit and weight of the pullover. Very, very light bobbling here and there. No pulls that I've been able to find. The only criticism, and it is slight, is the slight wear to some of the labels - the washing labels in particular. Brilliant collectors condition.”|

George Best 'V Insert Pullover' in Black/Red
Original George Best branded jumper from late 60s/early 70s sold in Georges shops during the same period.
Best opened his first shop in 1967 in partnership with Mike Summerbee. Situated in Bridge Street, Manchester,
the relatively short lived venture yielded items such as this which are now fantastically rare and equally as collectible.
Deep V-Neck Jumper in black with red detailing with attached red mock turtle insert. Ribbed hem and fold back ribbed cuffs.
Cable knit detailing on frontage. Plain Back. Very reminiscent of a fishermans jumper in terms of the close knit.
The material is not wool but 'Sayelle'- something which we should be thankful for in terms of longevity. Should it have
been wool, I'm unsure it would have been in the same brilliant condition. Sayelle was a trademark (as was Orlon) of
the Dupont Chemical Company. These were times when there was a good chance that same people who made your washing up liquid
also made your suit fabric. The man made materials promised a longer life and were much easier to look after
(this said the label on this one does say 'hand wash only') - it would certainly have dried much quicker than wool of the same weight.
The main George Best label is printed with the 'George Best' signature in Red on a dark Gold Background.
This label also has a printed number which has faded somewhat and is hard to make out.
Stitched to the above label in the collar is a white label which states:
V INSERT PULLOVER
CODE NO. C887
Please see picture to see washing label (surrounded by factory labels referring to size '40' and another label printed '2').
