Vintage Middle Eastern Round Casket Box Copper w/ Tin Plate Repousse Ethnic Art

Vintage Middle Eastern round copper box, tin plated repousse hinged box with latch.

We are very happy to be able to offer this very unique round, copper, tin plated, lidded box.

This box came to us from a local collector. It was originally from the middle east, what was once known as Persia. This box is fabricated from sheet Copper plated with tin, it has a hand hammered design on the lid and sides of the box. The bottom and sides are joined with a fold over joint. The hinge and latch are very heavy for the piece, and appear to be made of brass. The two top knobs that look to have been used as anchor points for a handle, are also very stout, as is their method of attachment. We are unsure what the original intended use of this box was, but today,it could be an interesting and beautiful way to store your small personal treasures.

The total height of this box is 6 inches. It's diameter is 9 3/16. The inside wall is 4 inches. Weight - 4.25 pounds

Condition- I have now idea how old this box is, but it shows an overall wear of the tin plating with the base copper showing through. The hinge and latch are both missing their original pins, and have been repaired with heavy wire and a nail. The sides and top have small pin holes where the original artisan tapped a bit to hard and punched through the surface when creating the design.
