Bob Jackson frame
Road Racing Bike
My stunningly beautiful, lightweight Bob Jackson 56cm Campagnolo-dressed racing bicycle. Circa '84.
10kg all up, feels and rides like 8kg, I successfully completed my first Ironman on Bob (probably the only steel frame rider out of 1500 athletes, in 2011) I think I was psychologically blessed by the pantagraphed outer chainring which did the Tour De France in '73!
I built Bob up three years ago from NOS parts on a gorgeous part-chromed, newly re-sprayed frame, with assistance and guidance from Chris Cow - an Italian specialist bike builder.
We started with the pretty metallic green frame which still has unmarked chrome forks and chain stays, and basically worked outwards over a patient 12 month build, collecting the best NOS parts we could find.
Bob had a recent gears n wheels service and is ready to ride for the summer.
Here's the frame and component list:
56cm part-chromed Bob Jackson frame set Reynolds 531 tubes, stays and forks with Campagnolo Headset (smooth as silk)
Campagnolo chromed dropouts
Mavic MA 700c wheels on large flanged Campagnolo Hubs - wheels are true and recently serviced
Vittoria Pro-Team Tecno Kevlar tyres (60 miles since new)
Campagnolo QR skewers
Campagnolo Super Record front and rear mech's
Campagnolo Strada 170 cranks
Campagnolo record 42/53 chainrings
Campagnolo BB (I think it's SR but honestly can't remember!)
Regina Extra 14/25 six speed cassette
Regina Extra chain
Campagnolo Nuovo Record pedals with Super Record toe clips and red leather straps
Campagnolo C Record brake callipers with Super Record drilled leavers and Campagnolo covers (brake pads are nearly new - hardly worn)
Campagnolo Super Record fluted seat post
Very comfortable, Super Corsa-style saddle in pearl white
The obligatory Cinelli Criterium bars with pearl white ribbon tape and Cinelli bar end stops
Cinelli quill stem 80mm (fast and responsive steering)
Matching pearl white Campagnolo Aero Dinamicia water bottle and cage
Red Jagwire cable sleeve throughout
This bike is a super-comfortable, mid-speed climber and attracts admiring glances, comments and questions on every ride. A head-turner.
Small paint chips which have been acquired through general use, have been touched-in using red nail varnish to prevent rust and hence can be cleaned out (if you really want an immaculate finish) using nail varnish remover and spotted with the appropriate green metallic paint. The bike will not need a re-spray for many years and has never been crashed.
I know it's a cliche but I am only selling because I have to create room for the next! A much loved bike and reluctant sale, I invested nearly £1500 in building this bike and it was worth every penny. Bike is in London SE5 and can of course be viewed by appointment.
Winner to pay within 48 hours of auction end. UK only please. Sorry, but I cannot/will not ship although happy to meet or personally deliver within a reasonable distance at buyers cost.
