Walsall At War

Booklet published by the Walsall Local History Centre in 1986, 40 pages. Large A4 size Booklet (S6754)

This booklet provides a fascinating brief account of the West Midlands town of Walsall during the First World War, and is illustrated throughout with lots of black and white photographs. The booklet contains four articles on the impact of the war upon Walsall and its residents, and they include:
  • The South Staffordshire Regiment, by B Fox, a brief history of the the role of this local regiment in the war
  • The Great War 1914-1918, edited by Marilyn Lewis, detailing extracts from the letters and journals of a Walsall man serving in France
  • Zeppelin Raid, by Marilyn Lewis, a brief account of the events of the night of 31st january 1916
  • Eye Witnesses, compiled by Joyce Hammond, extracts from the reminiscences of Walsall residents concerning life in the town during the war
Condition of the booklet is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs, and some light nibbling along the edges 9including a crease in the extreme top right hand corner), but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
