A WW2 chocolate brown plastic economy issue cap badge for the Army Catering Corps, complete with two blade fittings to the rear, no makers marks to the rear.

This badge, along with many other items that I am offering today and in the near future came from the estate of a gentleman by the name of Basil Algernon Hanham. The key to the original owner/wearer of these items is on the slider of one of the cap badges which is impressed "B A HANHAM". Research shows that Basil Algernon Hanham was born in Faversham Kent circa 1893/94 and was a member of quite a well to do family (the 1911 census shows the family as having three servants). Young Hanham enlisted in the "Kensingtons" on November 5th 1912 whilst a student living in Holland Road Kensington. He served in France as part of the BEF from 3rd november 1914 and was wounded in the chest on Christmas day 1914. He returned to UK early in January 1915 and served  until 10th May 1915 when he was discharged as a result of his wounds. His original service number was 1351 and he was later renumbered 490093. I assume that the badges not relating to the Kensingtons were collected by him whilst serving ?

For his service he was awarded the 1914 (Mons) Star, British War and Victory Medals in addition to a silver wound badge (the whereabouts of these is unknown to me). He must have served in some capacity during WW2 as his ribbon bars (which will be listed at sometime in the future) include the ribbon of the Defence Medal suggesting Home Guard, Civil Defence or ARP service.

A superb collection including some scarce items and unusually for badges, attributable to their original owner/wearer.
