Very moving 3 letters that were found in a copy of Battledress book by Gunbuster

The book also has some pressed flower petals (page 44) and a card note Wren M Howard HMS Vulture

Letter 1 is 5 pages and dated June 1st (presume 1942 as per date on back of photo) and is written by Sgt Reed 1388490 RAF Skellingthorpe Lincs to Wren Mollie Howard. Talks about the enclosed book Battle Dress which she hopes she enjoys. Mentions going to see Casablanca with Ken ( who I take to be Sgt Kenneth Bowerman) "The weather has rather clamped down as far as flying is concerned at least as far as going and giving the Ruhr another one"

Also talks about being paraded some 400 strong "Who should we run into but the big chief himself" -( is that Bomber Harris?). Signed Bill Letter 2 dated 18th June 1943 and sent by Mollie to Bill but stamped on envelope "Return to sender on Air Ministry's instructions" The one page letter is from Bills mother Gladys " our Bill is one of the missing from the raid on the Ruhr on the 14th of June" also mentions navigator Davey "who's mother is greatly distressed (Sgt Arthur Davey)

Letter 3 is also written by Gladys addressed to Miss Howard and dated Jan 4th 1944 - "Well I have no good news as we heard from the Red Cross in Nov that our Bill lost his life on 14th June they evidently met with misfortune on the way back from the Ruhr" Lancaster ED810 of 50 Sqn was returning from the raid on Oberhausen when they were intercepted over Holland by a night fighter piloted by Rudolph Frank 2/NGJ3 one of his 45 victims. None of the crew survived - 197 Lancasters attacked the target suffering an 8.4% loss. Frank was latter killed in action in 1944
