Griselda Hill Pottery
This listing is for a 'Wemyss Ware' Bulldog produced by the Griselda Hill Pottery in Ceres, Fife.
Appropriate pottery marks are on the bottom of the piece (see photo).
The original Wemyss Pottery was produced at Robert Heron's factory in Kirkcaldy from 1882.
'Wemyss Ware' is known the world over and collected by many.
Cats and Pigs are probably the more recognisable Wemyss ware products.
Griselda Hill now owns the 'Wemyss' name and trademarks and for around 30 years has continued
the tradition of producing the famous hand painted Wemyss wares, using the same techniques.
The Bulldog is a very appealing character. This one especially so because of his size and sad face.
Not Kennel Club registered he is fortunately house trained and would in fact like a new one to live in.
Hand painted with clover decoration he is simply stunning.
His dimensions are 23cm high by 27cm long.
Condition - Perfect. No chips, cracks or restoration.
There is crazing to the glaze which is common with this ware because a traditional soft glaze is used.
Such crazing is normal and does not affect the lasting quality of the piece.
Despite his 'hang dog' expression this really is a superb piece and looks good in any room.
I apologise for the cost of postage but this is a heavy item, weighing in at 1.6 kg unpacked.
I always use the most economical delivery service that I can find.
As always, if anyone has any problem and wishes to return the item then please contact me and I'll arrange a refund.
All I ask is that it is returned in the same condition as it left me.
OVERSEAS BIDDERS - Please ask me for a postage cost before bidding. Thanks.
Thanks for looking.
