hi there if you need a simple straight forward no nonsense phone that is reliable this is it I use this as a spare but forget about the internet or lots of apps phone calls texts ok but internet it is all blackberry and it is a small app store with very little to choose from I bought this as it was cheap just to put in the car just incase off emergencies battery life is good the handling is fairly so as a spare cheap phone you cannot go wrong good

As 'New, Old Stock mobile phones go, the Blackberry 8520 arrived via the Royal mail as expected. On opening the packaging, the phone was exactly as described on the ebay advertisement. I charged the phone up, inserted the sim card and an 8 Gb micro SD card, all good. The phone rings up and texts fine. My main issue with the phone it that no matter how hard I, my son and a friend who used to work in a mobile phone shop, the phone will not connect to any WIFI source. I downloaded the full instruction manual off the internet, but we still cant get it to connect. The phone itself is a nice little unit, it's got all the office package on it (which works but I have not used yet). Another minor issue that I noticed is that the 8 Gb SD card caused the phone to freeze, lock up. I changed the card to a smaller 1 Gb SD card and it worked fine, which leads me to think that due to its age, the phone could not handle the larger card. The internet connection problem WIFI issue is a disappointment, but I shall continue asking around people 'in the know' because I feel that I/We have overlooked something simple so as to enable the phone to connect. I needed an upgrade and access to my e-mails on the go. The blackberry caters for this as well as a built in video and camera that is of great quality. It is a good looking phone that comes in a few colors (I chose white), easy to use as I didn't need to read the manual. You can download other applications such as twitter, MSN etc. I'd recommend this to anyone who is attached to the internet and needs access to it all hours. It is lightweight,long battery life, compact and fits in to any pocket for convenience. My only regret is not having bought one earlier.
I’ve been using the Blackberry 8520 on and off for a few weeks now. I see how and why so many business people are such huge Blackberry fans. My family and friends call me a power emailer so I was very excited to get my hands on the 8520. Almost every aspect of it is nice. The track pad is pretty nice. It charges via a MicroUSB plug. The battery life is amazing. My favorite part about the BB is that it has UMA, meaning it connects to a wireless router and let’s you make calls over the net. From my understanding you should be able to use the phone via UMA overseas on any wireless network. The 1 thing that has me down on this phone is the keyboard. Writing so many email on my phone I want the best keyboard possible. Every single BB device should have the TOP of the line keyboard. I sometimes spend 2 hours on my phone reading and responding to email and I want a top of the line keyboard from a BB who’s supposed to have the premiere email devices. As a whole I liked the 8520 but it’s just not for me JUST because of the keyboard. If you like the keyboard then by all means, I would recommend it to anybody.Read full review
Looks like a new one and works fine. Thanks. Still has Vodafone image come up on start up which I would like to get rid of but seem unable to because I’m not with Vodafone. Had a bad experience with them on another phone and another contract so would never choose them again. I don’t like the reminder every time I start up this phone. Any tips? Otherwise really excellent mobile phone. Brilliant battery life - can carry a spare - not like iPhones.
