This 2DVD set features the 2002 BBC series presented by intrepid adventurer Donal McIntyre. He takes us all over the planet explaining the science behind the Earth's wildest weather systems; and there's no scaremongering. Rather than focusing on global warming which seems to be the done thing with environmental documentaries these days, Donal (with the help of some 3D animation) gets to the heart of each weather system. He seems to relish being blasted with wind, roasted, soaked and almost frozen to death showing us the effects these extreme conditions can have on human bodies. This DVD is both fascinating and educational and well presented by McIntyre who isn't a weatherman, but seems to know what he's talking about. The extras are strictly for Donal admirers featuring an interview with him and his biography but that aside, both adults and younger viewers will enjoy this exciting look at the system which influences global weather phenomena.Read full review
There are a lot of documentaries around on DVD but not many that concentrate on the weather. This is a shame as I personally find the weather fascinating. This series explores 4 aspects of the weather each of which being concentrated on in each episode. These are Hot, Cold, Wet and Wind. The series is presented by Donal MacIntyre who may be o David Attenborough he certainly is a very good presenter who is prepared to get his hands dirty. In this series he places himself in the worlds largest wind tunnel, in front of a flooding reservoir and also into a giant freezer! Each episode goes into plenty of technical detail that is excellently presented for the layman. There are also many case studies of real life examples. On the whole this is a good series, the only real critisism being that the extras are not really worth having on there and that I would have liked to see a couple more episodes.Read full review
great film of wild weather around the world. bought for use in weather project at school - my class of year 4's were amazed.
