Yellow shrimp are just as easy to keep as red cherry shrimp and have nearly identical requirements. As with all dwarf shrimp, they should be kept in aquariums with no direct predators. While most fish will eat them, smaller fish species will be unable to eat the adults but will happily eat any babies. Some fish may also bully larger shrimp to death so be careful when selecting tank mates. It is important to keep aquarium parameters stable and within the ranges listed above. Dwarf shrimp cannot tolerate the presence of ammonia and the tank should be fully cycled prior to their introduction.

These shrimp are Omnivorous. While they are algae eaters they will likely not eradicate excess algae from your tank on their own. They will happy graze on biofilm on plants and the substrate but should be supplied with additional food sources too. Good options are flake fish foods, Hikari crab cuisine, sinking algae pellets or pretty much any other safe freshwater food type. They also love occasional treats of blanched vegetables such as spinach. It is best to use organic vegetables when available. You'll also want to ensure any food sources are free of copper as this is deadly to all freshwater invertebrates.

Yellow shrimp are non-aggressive though they will sometimes try to steal food from one another. Most of their time is spent picking food off of surfaces in your aquarium. If you notice some of them swimming around frantically it is likely males in search of a receptive female. She'll be the one hiding somewhere to try and get away from them.

They are very prolific breeders in most any situation. The best way to ensure survival of the young is to provide areas in which to hide such as thick plant growth like mosses as well as to add sponge pre-filters onto all filter inputs so that they do not get sucked up. Females are larger than the males are are typically a darker or brighter yellow color. Females also can have bright yellow lines that streak down their back. Males tend to be smaller and more transparent with a more milky yellow coloring. When the female is mature she will display a saddle that is visible behind the head, this formation is caused by unfertilized eggs in the ovary. After she becomes pregnant, the eggs are held on her belly until they hatch into miniature versions of the adult, there is no larval stage. You will often see females fanning the eggs and sometimes they will drop them either from stress or if they were unfertilized.
