For Sale – Yamaha XS650

We have a number of XS650s arriving and they are always sought after machines, if you own just one classic motorcycle then Yamahas parallel twin 650 makes a very strong case for itself. The engine delivers low down, useable torque in spades, which makes for an easy, relaxed riding style, seldom experienced on a multi, it  is very capable of keeping up with modern traffic speeds, whether you want to ride past the chip shop or go to the south of France with a tent the XS will happily oblige. All of this in a pretty motorcycle that is practical, affordable, staggeringly reliable for bikes approaching 40 years of age and, by the later models such as this, offering excellent handling characteristics to boot.

This particular machine is a 1976 model year XS650 C still finished in the original French Blue paint scheme and was built in October 1975 and has covered just 18,981 miles, it starts well and runs just as it should pulling cleanly and eagerly from the very bottom of the rev range. While it is not cosmetically perfect, it is in lovely original and very rideable condition.

Petrol Tank

The petrol tank is in good shape with no dents or damage, still finished in the original Yamaha French Blue paint. There is some superficial surface rust internally.

Side Panels

The side panels are both in good condition; they are undamaged and again still wear the original factory paint.

Headlamp

Headlamp is in good order; the brackets are kinked a little.

Front Mudguard

The front mudguard is in good condition, with no damage, the chrome is clean and bright.

Rear Mudguard

The rear mudguard is in similarly good order and again the chrome is in good order.

Seat

The seat cover is in generally good shape but it is starting to split around the bottom edge.

Exhaust

The original exhaust system is in remarkably good condition, there is a small dent on the right hand silencer, this is not significant and does not show in the pictures.

Engine

The engine starts and runs well; it is quiet with no signs of mechanical issues. It idles well and pulls cleanly from low revs.

Clutch

Works well.

Gearbox

The gears select cleanly and smoothly.

Carburettors

In good order.

Airbox / Rubbers

The original air box is fitted.

Kick Start

Working well.

Front Brake

The front brake is working well.

Rear Brake

Working well, no issues noted.

Forks

Action smooth, damping effective, the stanchions are clean and the seals are tight.

Rear Shocks

Light surface rust on the springs but functionally good.

Frame condition

Frame paint is clean, with minor marks and scrapes, there are no signs of any damage.

Swing Arm

Good, condition, no play in bearings.

Front wheel

The original alloy rim is in good undamaged condition, there is no play to note in the bearings.

Rear wheel

Again the rear wheel is the original alloy item and in good order, with no bearing play noted.

Instruments

Original items in clean cosmetic condition.

Switchgear

Good condition, the kill switch is stuck in the on position and needs freeing.

Electric start

The electric start is working but this does tend to be a weak point on the XS650, while it does engage and spin the motor it tends to disengage too early, however it will start the engine with some perseverance. This may be a simple as some adjustment as the motor is clearly working well.

Lights

Headlight high and dip and tail light working well.

Brake light

Working correctly on the both front and rear brakes.

Indicators

The indicators are working well.

Horn

The horn is not working.

The Motorcycle Emporium

The Motorcycle Emporium is a leading supplier of Classic Motorcycles. We aim to offer a wide and constantly changing stock of pre 1984 machines ranging from restoration projects to restored or low mileage original machines.

We pride ourselves on providing a friendly, professional and complete service to our customers, from an accurate and detailed description of the bikes we sell through to the provision of paperwork and advice to ensure that the registration process is kept simple and straightforward.

We do not have all of the machines we have available on eBay, so please see our website for future sales www.classicmotorcyclesearch.co.uk

All of our auctions are private listings, we have reluctantly adopted this policy in order to protect our customers from spam and scam email.

Overseas Customers.

We regularly sell motorcycles throughout Europe and welcome overseas customers. We are of course more than happy to assist with loading and preparing the bikes for shipping here in the UK.

Important information.

We cater for enthusiasts and collectors, machines of this age need to be maintained and cared for, within the listing above we have given a full assessment of the condition to the best of our ability. As with any motorcycle of this age we are not able to provide a warranty, we rarely have a great deal of history on our bikes so they will need a recommissioning service and a full safety check.

Please contact us within 48 hours of the end of the auction, bikes can be stored for a short period should you not be able to collect immediately by agreement.

Payment Methods.

We accept payment by bank transfer, cheque or cash on collection, if payment is made by cheque the funds will need to clear before the bike can be released
