Herriot fans like me may have been put off by the fact it so quickly became a series. Don't be. It is well researched, lots from Alf Wight's own diaries, family, and of course from his son who wrote his proper (ignore the unauthorised one) biography himself. Far from being a freeloader, the author comes across as fresh, authoritative and extremely respectful. Well worth a read. Only short, as the pages are double spaced, but I was really surprised and delighted. I shall be looking for the author's other works on the basis of this one.
