Shabti of Asetneferet

Egypt, Late period to early Ptolemaic Period, c. 4th. - 3rd. Century B.C.

Material: Faience 

Condition: intact

Size: c. 11.8 cm (without stand)

Provenance: German private collection

The faience shabti of turquoise to blue colour is compact and bar shaped. On the front, there is a column with an hieroglyphic inscription that continues on the back of the shabti.

The inscription reads as follows:

sHD Wsjr Ast-nfrt ms.n IaH(-ir-di-sj)

"Illuminating of Osiris, Asetneferet, born of Iah(irdisj)."


Aset-neferet means "Isis, the beautiful"

Iahirdisj means "it is the moon which has given her"

Iah "the moon" refers to the god Thot who was considered as god of wisdom but als as moon god.

The design of the shabti indicates a dating to the 30th dynasty or early Ptolemaic period.

 

Der Uschebti von türkisfarbener bis blauer Fayence ist von kompakter, stabförmiger Statur. Auf der Vorderseite befindet sich eine von Linien umrahmte Kolumne mit einer hieroglyphischen Inschrift, die sich auf der Rückseite fortsetzt.


Die Inschrift lautet wie folgt:

sHD Wsjr Ast-nfrt ms.n IaH(-ir-di-sj)

"Erleuchten lassen des Osiris, Asetneferet, geboren von Iah(irdisj)."


Aset-neferet bedeutet "Isis, die Schöne"

Iahirdisj bedeutet "der Mond ist es, der sie gegeben hat"

Iah "der Mond" verweist auf den Gott Thot, der nicht nur als Schreiber- und Weisheitsgott, sondern auch als Mondgott galt.


Die Gestaltung des Uschebtis spricht für eine Datierung in die 30. Dynastie bzw. frühe Ptolemäerzeit.
