A BBC quality soundproof recording studio, currently assembled in private house and to be dismantled and sold off.

Irregular interior dimensions, approximately 4m by 4m with vocal booth annex. Ceiling height approx 2.3m.

Comprises 6 heavy duty soundproof doors in, two soundproof windows and sound insulation with bass baffles.  Acoustic walls and ceiling are approximately 30cm thick.  Includes air circulation unit and own mains fuse box.

Buyer collects.

For further information contact buyer.

--------------------------------------------  Some further information  -------------------------

The sound room is of substantial construction. The walls are a double layer of platerboard on a frame with an inner layer of fibre board. When deconstructed these can be re-assembled in any shape or order - but I guess you'll need a builder to do this if you don't have the skills yourself. Within this there appears to be about a 25cm gap - which may be full of acoustic materials, but has gaps in the inner wall in places, and some sections appear to vary from fairly solid wood to thin ply - which I think is something to do with the base baffles - I can investigate this further. The inner wall is covered in fabric, so I'll have to remove some to see.

The ceiling is made up of about 15 beams which seem to be about 8x2" , each about 5m long, to the underside of which is fixed one, or possibly two layers of plasterboard. On the inside the ceiling is covered in standard half meter acoustic tiles which support 5 rotatable spotlights in the main sound room and two halogen downlighers in the vocal booth.

The window between the sound room and the vocal booth is double glazed and appears to be heavy plate glass, with the panes fixed at an angle.I don't think they're pine, but they're some sort of light coloured wood. All the doors have aluminium/rubber strip seals and in the two with windows - they're double glazed. Further seals are fitted to doors of the room in which the sound room is located.

The doors are going to be pretty heavy - maybe 40kg each. The total area of platerboard is around 50 sq m - maybe double skinned, at around 10kg/sq m. Each ceiling beam will weigh 5-10kg. Overall, the components must weigh more than 1 tonne. With a decent capenter/handyman, you could have it re-created in any shape you like, but I guess you'd have to make some executive decisions about where you want the base baffles to be.

When deconstructed these can be re-assembled in any shape or order - but I guess you'll need a builder to do this if you don't have the skills yourself.  The technical name for the wall construction is a Camden partition with a layer of Rockwool behind pegboard on the inside. The rear wall has a number of modular bass traps to a BBC design - you can feel these boxes behind the cloth. If you have a look at the BBC Research website you can find technical papers on these.  The inner wall is covered in fabric.

NOTE - I'm fielding questions about collection so let me summarise..............

I'm periodically away, so collection of the parts of the sound room will need to be arranged to fit in with when I'm available.

I anticipate that I can have everything dismantled by 29th April ready for collection - for those who want to help, we can arrange whatever suits.

Once everthing is dismantled, I can wait for collection for up to about a month - for those who have nowhere to store everything immediately.
