c1830 James Pigot steel engraved antique map of Bedfordshire

You are viewing a genuine original antique steel engraved map of the county of Bedfordshire dating from around 1830. The map was drawn and engraved by James Pigot and published in Pigot's British Atlas.

The map is very detailed (see second and third pictures) and is complete with the original hand-colouring of borders, coastline etc. There is a decorative engraved cartouche of Luton Church and keys to the Hundreds and the symbols used on the map.

The engraved area of the map measures 14" x 8.75" (approx 36 x 22cm.). plus a deep 1" border on all sides (not all the border is illustrated).

The map is in overall very good condition, with just a hint of very slight age discolouration to the borders. There are no tears or creases. The only real defect with the map is that strong glue has been used at some point in the past to attach the map to a white backing board, but this is only at the extreme top edge of the map border (see main picture). If the map is matted and framed in the normal way, it would not be visible at all.

All in all, this is a very nice example of this map at a realistic price that typically retails for between £80 to £120.
